Aim of the Project
The aim of this inaugural Converzacione is to provide a forum for exploring
the future of the global oil and gas industry and other impacting oil,
gas, energy and sustainability issues of today, with special emphasis on
the related international legal remedies and productivity policies which
may apply, along with addressing the crucial question of who will carry
responsibility for the physical security of Middle East oil exports, now
that these mostly go to Asian markets rather than the US or Europe.
Learning Outcomes
- Knowledge/understanding based on a practitioner’s insight of the
role of comparative law along with the cross-cultural values,
principles and rules which underpin the law, as it applies to
the oil, gas and energy industries on a global basis.
- Knowledge/understanding based on a practitioner’s insight of the
UN’s 17 ambitious Sustainable Development Goals, and their
impact on the emerging transworld contextual dynamics within
which the law operates.
- Knowledge/understanding based on a practitioner’s insight of the new
technologies that are providing diverse but uncertain
opportunities for producing ‘unconventional’ oil and gas in many
parts of the world – with the Caribbean and parts of the African
continent being used as case studies
Outputs
- The session was taped from the CLS end, so that a Video was made to
reflect the project outcomes and participants’ impressions. The
Video was uploaded to Youtube and the CLS blog for students
access re: further discussion.
- Moot Competition held in Trinidad between CLS/UWI students as a
culminating project that unpacked/synthesised the knowledge
gained in the Converzacione
